Re: Twilight Universe General Philosophical Musings

Do you think Stephenie designed it this way or am I seeing signs that no one else does? It's possible that Stephenie designed it that way but I don't think it's likely. If we look at the way Stephenie designed Alice's visions, I would say she believes in free will. This is because the her visions s...

Re: Discrepancies

I do agree that the threat level that humans represent to vampires in the World of Darkness is significantly more evident, if not actual, than that of those in Twilight. The addition of other supernatural threats (Twilight has the rare Werewolf and Shapeshifter, but nothing of the magnitude of the m...

Re: Discrepancies

Europe didn't have Greek Fire, Mr. Palmer. They would have loved to have it, but they did not. While the Byzantines held (and eventually lost) the secret of Greek Fire, the use of flammable substances based on a number of sulphur-, petroleum- and bitumen-based mixtures have been in existence since ...

Re: Discrepancies

And, Mr. Palmer, Greek Fire has several problems with practical application. Its throwers are large and clumsy, requiring ships or fortifications to mount them on. Not to mention that you'd need to pry the recipie from Araby's cold, dead hands - and then decode it from a cipher that includes a numb...

Re: Review Time: I liked the Eclipse movie!

My anticipation of Eclipse was no less intense than that of New Moon, but filled with far less apprehension. The production quality had been greatly improved with New Moon and, while Eclipse has some touching, emotional moments, it is a far easier story to tell. Mostly, I was just looking forward to...

Re: Discrepancies

Knives. Which is why I contest that they can be harmed by humans more than we suspect and are far more susceptible to fire than we suspect. Greek fire has been around a long time.

Re: Twilight Universe General Philosophical Musings

But in reading over this section again, I suppose I can see that he lived this lifestyle much longer still than he's been with the Cullens. I don't think he regrets his decision, just that it is still an adjustment for him. Maybe he's restraining himself more than necessary and that's why he's stil...

Re: Discrepancies

OK, OK, I'll give in and give the real answers.

Edward can recognize Bella's heartbeat because it's ROMANTIC.

The "Hunters 3" couldn't hear Bella's heartbeat because of PLOT DEVICE.

That said, the other reasons are FAR more interesting to read and write :-D

Re: Discrepancies

My guess would be that they hear heartbeats all the time in the forest, if they listen for them. All those animals, etc. There are animals that have heartbeats in the same range as ours, so another heartbeat within the woods wouldn't have been unusual. It's only really by scent that they can notice ...

Re: Twilight Universe General Philosophical Musings

When it comes to Jasper, I think I'd want to say that the "conscience" he developed is something slightly different from what we've been discussing. Because that was about murdering other vampires: the direct correlate to the conscience which stops us from killing one another. That is, I ...
