Re: Bella Swan Cullen #3

I really don't think that SM was setting out to create a myth. People call it mythical because it contains elements of the paranormal, of the mythic. The legends she created weren't meant to be taken seriously, but were plot devices. While I don't defend the writing as spectacular - believe me, I fi...

Re: Bella Swan Cullen #3

I definitely think her inability to describe Edward is a symptom of her infatuation. She is too in love with him for words. I completely agree with you, Jazz Girl, about how this inability makes her more relatable, and Edward more defendable. I think it works the other way too - if you can't identif...

Re: Leah Clearwater

Ahh I never even thought of that! It seems a fact of life though, that men have more sympathy for a woman who's been hurt physically by a man, but bears it quietly, than they do for a woman scorned. Men, and people in general, seem to be more sympathetic to people who deal with pain internally than ...

Re: Bella Swan Cullen #3

Beautifully put, December. I agree with you both, but I'd like to add something. I think we see in Bella, or at least I do, our own weaknesses. This is why we feel a need to vehemently defend her, or sometimes, as I do, a real disgust with her. I can read Twilight in very small installments, because...

Re: Edward Cullen #6

amethyst - I completely agree. I don't think either of them were emotionally very strong at all until after Bella's transformation. After that, I think Edward was a lot less gripped by guilt and fear and self-hatred, and Bella's self-image was much better. Jazz Girl - You're definitely right about ...

Re: Jacob and Nessie

That's weird. I remember discussing it before now, though. That makes NO sense. It does that she'd be very warm to Bella but not to Jacob. Maybe she's warm to Jacob because she's his imprint? Then she'd be the same as an average human, because the average human feels warm to another human and hot to...

Re: Jacob and Nessie

Nessie is much warmer than Bella and Edward but cooler than the average human and Jacob, I believe. Where does it say she's warmer?

Re: Jacob and Nessie

Well, vampires smell bad to wolves because it's sickly sweet, it burns your nose and it's icy cold because they're icy cold. Since Nessie's not actually a full vampire, she only smells sweet, and not cold.
