Re: Imprinting

HofJ and I had a discussion, a few pages back, regarding imprinting and child grooming. You might read it; some of the ground you're treading now has been discussed in-depth, though I'm always game for revisiting the subject.

Re: Explorations

Knives, I don’t know if you want to proceed from my reply to your post above or move on. Was there one of Arzim’s theses that you particularly wanted to pick up on? Well, on its own thread ( definitely in its own thread) I'd definitely like to pick up on the concept that Edward is emotionally abusi...

Re: Explorations

Giving up Everything. For. Love. [Dissenting Opinion]Like age, physical needs, wrinkles, vanity weight...[/dissenting opinion] :p I'm not gonna re-hash this ground again, but I do wonder something - a lot of the stuff you guys are talking/half-gushing about has been covered, on the Anti side, in Ar...

Re: Explorations

"Series" that contain several different stories might be more accurately referred to as "settings". Certainly Xanth has no real over-arching narrative, though any one book could reasonably be said to take place after the previous one. Likewise, the Discworld series is actually several series all con...

Re: Explorations

STILL ALIVE! Question for discussion - Do you think there's a cutoff point when a series or story just needs to stop being told? I do. I'm big on "less is more", and my typical cutoff (depending on genre and thickness of the books) is up to five books for one story (and they'd better be damned good)...

Re: Explorations

I'll post something more in-depth later. However, I would love to participate in NaNoWriMo - if I wasn't shackled down by two jobs and a newborn son (ten weeks! YEAH!). I've got no time and no energy to come up with something entirely new, drivel or otherwise, in such a short span of time.

Re: Explorations

So ya'll know, the reason I'm not replying is that I'm waiting on Openhome to post. Blame her :P

Re: Explorations

I LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE once more! I've got a LOT to respond to: @December (in general): Mine (and many other readers') objection to the relationship and character portrayals in Twilight and other books stems from the reactions of the fans. Indeed, we've just resurrected ( "It'...

Re: Explorations

Do you think this unsubtlety is essential to stories which appeal forcefully -- melodramatically -- to the reader’s emotions? Or is it just that such stories can operate unsubtly? I'm inclined to agree with Openhome that Storytelling can be more nuanced than you suggest. It certainly can be, but in...

Re: Explorations

...I will move on to another topic then... I will have to come back to something posted previously about Jacob and the point that a boy becomes a man...got to get back to work here. This particular post had lead me to believe that you may not have wanted to continue in this vein of conversation, bu...
