I think the Cullens, because they needed to blend in with humans so much more than most other vampires (the non-vegetarian kind) needed to "move with the time"...evolve.... kind of like Lestat. He needs imperfections.... it's why he seems so "real" to so many readers.
He he had been perfect, then he would have been completely unbelievable as a character and I think he would have lost the majority of his appeal.

I always carry one of the 4 books with me, which ever one I am reading.
The rest are on my night table as I tend to read in bed.... :-)

It's difficult to compare, because both are oh so different. I immensly enjoyed both, enough to read them several times.... but if I had to pick one, I would choose Twilight, simply because I started "feeling" the story from the get go.
