Re: Pronounciation Key
I think Renesmee's middle name is Car-leeeee. The "car" is from Carlisle, and the "lee" is from Charlie. Carlie. Right?
Re: Pronounciation Key
Well that's a thread for me
Let's see... I used to spell:
Leah=Lee (not L-i-a... until I finished Breaking Dawn and watched an interview with S.Meyer)
Carlisle= Car-lee-sel
Like just the way you see it with the 's' and everything
Quileute= firstly Qui-loi-te (stupid German XD) and then Qui-le-tte (is that correct actually?
)
and then the stuff about Siobahn and Nahuel I had no idea
Ahaha I can't believe it I'm so dumb

Re: Pronounciation Key
the only reason i was able to pronounce carlisle and rosalie correctly is because i'd encountered them before. if i hadn't, i'd probably have butchered them, too.
it was only by luck that i'd been pronouncing esme's and nahuel's names right, but like most of the people here i mutilated siobhan.
i just sounded it out phonetically.
and dear god: quileute. i was saying "kweh-loot". lawlz.

Re: Pronounciation Key
I am so anal about using American English that I had little trouble with most of the names. I will say Siobhan was beyond me lol. So thanks for whoever posted it correctly. Also I was saying Quill ee yoot for the tribe instead of just quill yoot so I was very close but close doesn't always make the cut lol. Rosalie my daughter was saying it Rose a lie instead of lee which I found hilarious. Then when I heard her say Lay-eh I was totally clueless who she meant (by the way my daughter is 12) then when she said Seth's sister I was like oh I thought it was Lee-ah because all the Leah's I ever met said Lee-ah. So it is good to know I was right there lol. As for Renesmee it is pronounced in BD for you. I still say Ehz may for Esme. I wonder if the gal in the audio books is interpreting it her own way or if she got it from Mrs. Meyer. I haven't heard the audio's myself I like the vacation of reading lol.

Re: Pronounciation Key
In my rereading of Twilight, there's mention of the Quillayute River... so quil-yoot or quil-ah-yoot seems right.

Re: Pronounciation Key
Luckily most pacific northwest native american names seem to be pretty phonetic, all though I have to admit that I was saying Quil-ette, until I read the pronounciation somewhere and then it was like "Oh, duh!"
I believe that's the correct pronounciation for Quilayute, I am pretty sure Hoquiam is phonetic like ho-kwee-um.
I am from a town in WA called Snohomish, and that is exactly how you say it Snow-hoe-mish, with a short i sound like in mitt. People always say "How do you say that???" But its really not hard.
I only was able to do Siobhan because my brother had a girlfriend named Siobhan once. I think I had heard all the names before, aside from some different ones like Nahuel, and Renesme of course.
