1. Given everything we learn from Edward about the fact that he was able to stop from drinking Bella's blood, but that he didn't like how she smelled when she had a transfusion, what does that say about his control over the way he thirsts for her blood? Do you think drinking her blood makes it easier or harder for him to resist now?
Easier for him to resist. He wanted her to be alive, but his eyes would be red, right? Unless he went hunting after... which I think he did... sorry thinking out loud. :D

2. Edward admits that Alice has seen Bella as a vampire. Why do you suppose, since he of all people knows it's crazy to deny Alice's visions, that he is so resistant to giving in and changing Bella?
He doesn't want this for her. I think he makes that pretty clear... or I used in a lot of my explanations. ;)

3. Bella begs Edward to never leave her. Although he never exactly promises NOT to leave her, he does say it would be impossible for him to even try. Knowing what we know about New Moon, do you think he was saying this as a way to tide Bella over and keep her calm for now? DO you think he had plans even at this point in the story to one day leave her?
I think that he knows that leaving might be a necessity after a while, but right then and there, it would be impossible to leave her. He wants Bella to be safe, no matter what the cost, as we see in New Moon.

4. Bella and Edward argue about her becoming a vampire, to which he point blank says that he will never do that to her. When I first finished reading Twilight, I was very torn over whether or not Bella should become a vampire. How did you feel at this point? Try to ignore all the discussions you've had here at the lex and focus on your first initial reaction. Did you think Bella should be changed right away and leave her family and life behind, or did you think Edward was being sensable to tell her that her mortality was important and more natural than anything he could give her?
I had mixed feelings. I saw where Edward was coming from, but seeing as I see myself as Bella, I wanted to be with him forever, so I wanted to be a vampire. But some aspects of Edward's argument made me be like, yeah I would wait until after I'm out of the house, but I would want to be with him always.
I'm not sure if that makes sense, but that's kind of my brief explanation.

i think it made it harder for him cos nw he knows just how good it tastes but he also knows how strong his control over that thirst is so he is confident that he even though hes still tempted he wont give in. i was very confused by this part surely his eyes should be red here because her mom said he'd never left her side so he wouldnt have had time to go hunting??? nd i assumed da blood smelt different affter da transfusion cos her blood had been mixed wit some1elses hus obviously didnt smell as good to him.
2. Edward admits that Alice has seen Bella as a vampire. Why do you suppose, since he of all people knows it's crazy to deny Alice's visions, that he is so resistant to giving in and changing Bella?
i guess i part of him is still hoping that that vision will change because he sees himself as a monster and he doesnt want that life for bella bcos he's worried she's hate it and hate him 4 changing her
3. Bella begs Edward to never leave her. Although he never exactly promises NOT to leave her, he does say it would be impossible for him to even try. i think he does have plans to leave her bcos he thinks thats wot is best for her but at the time he really means it wen he says it would be impossible to leave her. ithink it was the fact that he had to protect her against a member of his own family that made him leave bcos he knows she can never be completely safe in his life while she remains human and he still adement that bella will not become a vampire, so he sees no choice but to leave
4. Bella and Edward argue about her becoming a vampire, to which he point blank says that he will never do that to her. becos we read the book from bellas side i wanted him to change her so that they could be together without him having to constantly worry about protecting her. but wen u really think edwards right in wanting her to have some more human experiences and atleast give her some time to prepare Charlie by moving away to "college" first.

I think he had a really hard time stopping. Carlisle had to remind him to stop. I don't think Carlisle would have said anything if Edward was in control. I think Bella's BLOOD smells good to Edward. It's not just Bella that smells good. So, when she has other people's blood in her, and their blood does not smell as good as hers, it changes her smell and she doesn't smell as good to Edward.

2. Edward admits that Alice has seen Bella as a vampire. Why do you suppose, since he of all people knows it's crazy to deny Alice's visions, that he is so resistant to giving in and changing Bella?

SM says several times that Alice's visions depend on people's decisions and can change pending their decisions. Perhaps Alice saw Bella as a vampire near the beginning of the book, before Edward had fallen in love with her and when he just thirsted for her blood. Or, even if the vision came later, Edward believes that his decision not to change Bella can change the future. Maybe he thinks Bella would have become a vampire in the ballet studio, but he prevented this and now it will never happen.

3. Bella begs Edward to never leave her. Although he never exactly promises NOT to leave her, he does say it would be impossible for him to even try. Knowing what we know about New Moon, do you think he was saying this as a way to tide Bella over and keep her calm for now? No, I don't think he planned on leaving. I think he decided to leave after Bella's birthday incident. He decided then that it was too difficult for Bella to be involved with vampires and that Jasper could have killed her.

4. Bella and Edward argue about her becoming a vampire, to which he point blank says that he will never do that to her. I wanted her to become a vampire and expected her to become one earlier in the books. I think she knew she wanted to be with Edward forever, she wasn't that close to her parents, and she wasn't planning on going to college so it made sense for her to join Edward. I saw the movie before I read the books. At the end of the movie, I was almost wondering if Bella would go looking for Victoria with the goal of being bit and changed. Obviously, this didn't happen and the movie ended differently from the book.

Do you think drinking her blood makes it easier or harder for him to resist now? It shows that he has good control over his thirst. I think that it would be harder for him to resist because now he knows what he's missing.

2. Edward admits that Alice has seen Bella as a vampire. Why do you suppose, since he of all people knows it's crazy to deny Alice's visions, that he is so resistant to giving in and changing Bella? I think that he wants to prove Alice wrong and show her that Bella doesn't HAVE to become a vampire.

Both? Its harder because he now knows what he is missing sort of. But easier becasue he loves Bella so much that there is no way he would harm her. It just not possible.

2. Edward admits that Alice has seen Bella as a vampire. Why do you suppose, since he of all people knows it's crazy to deny Alice's visions, that he is so resistant to giving in and changing Bella?
He wants her to have a life. A "real" life. I dont think he knows how devoted and in love Bella is with him. He feels that if he changes her, he would be doing it only for himself.

3. Bella begs Edward to never leave her. Although he never exactly promises NOT to leave her, he does say it would be impossible for him to even try. *sigh* I dont know. I think he wanted to believe that. But deep down, he knew that someday he would have to walk away. BUT I think he was thinking years ahead...so when it happened so fast it took him by suprise too. The fact that he had to do the impossible.

4. Bella and Edward argue about her becoming a vampire, to which he point blank says that he will never do that to her. I wanted Bella to be changed yes. Not right that second, she needed time to work out a plan of action.

~he loves Bella and won't harm her. i think it makes it easier for him to resist now because he loves her.

~he believes that its hell and murder and takes away your soul.

~I totally see Edward's POV, but I really wanted her to be a vampire after reading Twilight.

I think it says a lot for his control.. It shows how strong he is and that he can live through and it love her. I think it made it easier for him. He now made the monster in him happy and shut him up. He tasted her blood and now there is nothing else for him to do with it. He is content.

2. Edward admits that Alice has seen Bella as a vampire. Why do you suppose, since he of all people knows it's crazy to deny Alice's visions, that he is so resistant to giving in and changing Bella?
He thinks that because he doesnt want Bella to have to have a vampire life like him. He believes he is a monster and thinks she is above that. He is intent on changing the future and does everything in his power to stop her. And he is stubborn.

3. Bella begs Edward to never leave her. Although he never exactly promises NOT to leave her, he does say it would be impossible for him to even try. I think at this point.. he was trying to calm her down and believed it at the time.. Jaspers attack was the catalyst that got him thinking. He wasnt planning on leaving her anytime soon until he saw that!

I really wanted Bella to become a vampire.. I knew that it would make everything easier on her and I had a gut feeling everything would work out with her family :)

I think it's both? I think that having tasted her blood, he now KNOWS just how good it tastes which would make it harder. However, he knows that despite how good she tastes he was able to stop himself, that he has enough love and self-control not to do it again and I would think that'd give him more confidence.

2. Edward admits that Alice has seen Bella as a vampire. Why do you suppose, since he of all people knows it's crazy to deny Alice's visions, that he is so resistant to giving in and changing Bella?
While he wonders why anyone ever bets against Alice, he knows that the future isn't a forgone conclusion and I think that he is determined to change the outcome of Alice's vision--he's determined to save Bella's soul. I don't think he truly understands Bella's determination may match his. Oh yes, he's in denial.

3. Bella begs Edward to never leave her. Although he never exactly promises NOT to leave her, he does say it would be impossible for him to even try. Knowing what we know about New Moon, do you think he was saying this as a way to tide Bella over and keep her calm for now? I think that he knows, deep down, that he'll do whatever is necessary to protect her--he loves her that much. However, I didn't think that he had any immediate plans to leave--in NM he makes a decision that he feels is best for her because he thinks that he can't keep her, and his family, safe any more.

4. Bella and Edward argue about her becoming a vampire, to which he point blank says that he will never do that to her. As someone stated before me, I'm "pro-bite"! That being said, I think Edward was right to put her off for a while. If she'd been changed immediately, there would have been too much explaining to do--to Charlie, Renee, everyone! It would be better to wait until Bella would have been leaving anyway--like to college when her absence wouldn't have caused a stir. I also understand Edward's point about having Bella enjoy the humaness as none of the Cullens would've chosen being vampires. I don't think Edward truly understands Bellas desire to be with him forever or her determination--which is just as strong as his.

1) He showed extreme inner strength and willpower in stopping. Like he said "I must really love you."
I would think that it would make it a little harder, but I believe he had the know-how to keep from 'finishing the job'.

2)He does not want to kill her soul and take away her humanity.

3)Yes and yes.

4)I understood Bella's desire for vampirism - to be with Edward forever. At this point, Edward was being sensible.

Well as for her smell, he likes the way she smells. I don't mean in the delicious sense. He has become used to the her smell, it's part of who she is to him. It's her smell. I guess it's kind of like how he smells to her, it's part of her identity. New blood means a new smell, a smell that he can't identify with her. I do think tasting her blood makes it a little bit harder for him to resist. It must be like the Pringles commercials used to say, "Once you pop you just can't stop" or something like that. However, knowing that he is capable of resisting temptation like that must make him able to realize how much control he really has, and how much he actually loves her.

2. Edward admits that Alice has seen Bella as a vampire. Why do you suppose, since he of all people knows it's crazy to deny Alice's visions, that he is so resistant to giving in and changing Bella?
The Cullens didn't really get to experience human life because they were all so young when they were changed. Edward wants Bella to enjoy life and experience every important moment she can. We will also find out later that he does not want to take away her soul.

3. Bella begs Edward to never leave her. Although he never exactly promises NOT to leave her, he does say it would be impossible for him to even try. Knowing what we know about New Moon, do you think he was saying this as a way to tide Bella over and keep her calm for now? I'm sure Edward tabled the subject at that moment to keep her calm and allow her to get better. I don't think he had any plans to leave her at that very moment, however, I do think he thought it might be inevitable. He says he would stay as long as it was good for Bella. He probably thought that at some point she would want more than he could give her, and he would find a way to leave then so that she could be happy.

4. Bella and Edward argue about her becoming a vampire, to which he point blank says that he will never do that to her. When I first finished reading Twilight, I was very torn over whether or not Bella should become a vampire. How did you feel at this point? I sort of figured she would have to become a vampire at some point. I mean Edward can't go back to being human, so really the only way for them to be together would be for her to become a vampire. I do think Edward was being sensable in telling her that mortality was important. She would be leaving a lot behind if he turned her right away. Her family would miss her and they would want to know what happened to her. I don't know if her mortality is MORE important than ANYTHING he could give her, because he can give her love she might never find again. But, she definetly should wait for a better time.
