Sorry I've been away so long, been busy and have probably been fired by Alice (party planning committee)

I think to see how a movie can be so different from a book you just need to look at Pride and Prejudice of which I am a huge fan! To many people the 1995 (I think) version with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle (sp?) is the definitive adaptation but it's something like 12 hours long. I think Twilight could definitely have been a miniseries because there is so much great stuff in the book but to appeal to a mass audience they had to condense it into a movie like the recent adaptation of P&P with Keira Knightly. For me, it was horrendous because there are so many errors and skipped scenes in it but you have to remember it's a movie not really a faithful adaptation.

The worst parts of the film for me were her prom outfit (I just can't get over it)
The lack of emotion in the hotel scenes in Phoenix ( I was sobbing in the book when she decided to leave )
and of course the meadow/reveal

Gosh, I can't tell you how much this movie frustrates me. I feel like almost every character is done poorly and several aspects are the complete opposite of what they should be. I know some things will seem nit-picky, but to me it's a lot of the smaller things that set the mood for the movie and, in this case, destroy it.

1) They didn't try to get the back-woods, small town feel of Forks at all. The school is big and new and kids make fun of her for her out of date truck. In the book, she's actually relieved to find that most people have older cars, so she won't stand out too much. Nothing feels intimate about her school. Only 350 students, the place should be tiny!

2) The characters I'm most upset by are Edward, Bella, and Billy. Why were they trying to make Billy try so hard to be cool? He's effortlessly an understanding dad, but he's not lame. They didn't give him that "I know something you don't know" look when he's trying to get Bella to steer clear of the Cullens. Bella! Ugh! Ok, she's supposed to be quiet and shy, but very nice as well. She looks irritated all the time and she's snippy and rude and looks like she's always about to scream someone's head off in the movie. When you look at her, you should think "Aww, poor cute little girl who obviously is uncomfortable with being in the spotlight" not "Stop looking at me like you're gonna jump down my throat." Edward is supposed to be composed, suave, and secretive. When they're together in the movie, he's nervous, anxious, uncomfortable. He should look like he's sitting still as stone, not shaking with anxiety. There are very few times when I see him even look at Bella with love in his eyes, much less try to dazzle her.

3) Please tell me why Jacob does not tell her about the cold ones being vampires? The whole point is for her to have that whole weekend to think about what she has learned. The aside with the Quileute book of legends is just retarded and a waste of time. She had good enough reason to go to a bookstore on her own without that. There was no need for it. Plus, this made the restaurant scene pointless since Edward didn't confirm any of her suspicions. And instead of her guessing about the mind-reading, he just comes out with it? And this leads to what I feel is the most out of character scene in the movie: when Bella confronts him about what he is. Seriously, he's practically yelling at her to say "vampire" out loud! Edward wouldn't yell at her like that. And then the next day, despite his bloodlust and how long it takes him just to hold her hand, he's perfectly easily throwing his arm around her like it's nothing?

4) The Cullen house really really bothers me. I love that it's supposed to be an old restoration made absolutely beautiful. It plays on their real ages and fits with their family so well. But no, they had to make it some totally modern house, not pale at all. Where's the awesome wall of glass in the back? Why is Edward's room so small? I hate how it looks like your average billionaire would live there.

5) Ok, the scenes with James, Victoria, and Laurent chasing people drives me nuts. There's no reason they couldn't have just been brought up in the baseball scene with a simple "visitors passing through heard us playing ball and wanted to say hi." Not to mention that those three would have smelled the other vampires around and known that it was other's territory, and that's a big deal with them. They wouldn't have hunted inside Forks. Plus the scenes are just plain cheesy. And we have wasted time on heartbreak for Charlie losing a friend. Is this supposed to substitute for Harry later on or what? It's a waste!

6) With as focused as Alice was on Bella during the James hunt, she would have seen a decision to walk out the door of the hotel while she and Jasper are standing in the foyer. It's ridiculous.

7) The prom! First of all, I thought it was endearing how it's supposed to be the silly little in the school gym prom with paper streamers and all. And yet you see the beautiful vampires dressed for fashion runways. It's hilarious! Nooooo...lame casino theme and Edward in an ugly suit and Bella in what looks like a very regular dress and Converses??? And no Alice + Jasper or Rosalie + Emmett flowing on the dance floor freaking everyone else out! It kills me!

I seriously can't stand this movie. It hurts to watch it. I really severely hope that New Moon turns out better.

Not only is Victoria staring at them at the end,
but when they first walk in - in the background you see her fluffy white coat thing. The shot only lasts for a few seconds but shes there. (I paused it and rewound it manyyyy times)
She is basically standing right there. You can't tell me what he 'blocked her out'
He would've smelled her.

That right there ruined the whole movie for me.
How fricken dumb can you get.
There are other ways to show that Victoria will be back in the sequels.

I hated Victoria showing up at the prom, Jade. There is no way at all that Edward wouldn't have noticed her there. She was so close he could have almost touched her (I saw her too in the movie with her dreadful fur). And he would have smelled, and he would have read her mind. It was just plain ridiculous to put her at the prom. And didn't it look like she was crying in the end? That would be really weird.

I didn't like the outfit at first. But I feel better about it now. Converses and a dress is exactly what Kristen wore to the MTV awards :D Wonder if she had Twilight in mind when she dressed like that? I actually like that. We can't all wear high heels. I'm the world's biggest clutz, so I totally understand Bella choosing chucks.
I for one liked the prom scene. I was not a big fan of the movie, as you might see a few pages back. But the two of them dancing at prom was just beautiful. I love the song. And I love how she stand on his feet.

I would venture to guess that it was actually her style that influenced her prom get-up. I think they could have at least per her in flats and a nicer dress. It may be cute on her, but it's about what's better for consistency with the book, not what makes the actress feel more comfortable.

Though I do agree about the music. I noticed right away that it was Iron & Wine. I love them.

also about the prom.. Bells didnt know where she was going or what they were getting her ready for. it showed her and alice being very close as well as rose pitching in and sort of kind of excepting bella.. but remember bella was horrified when she found out they were going to the prom and she kind of thought he was going to change her and thats what they were getting ready for.. also the prom deal was for edward anyway.. not bella.. it just shows how much edward wants her alive and how much she only wants to be with him forever..
I think him wanting her alive and to do "human" things was kind of left out of the movie

^I agree with you. They should have focused more on how much Edward wanted her to stay human. They even had him telling her about how you become a vampire. Which he didn't want her to know. It was Alice who told her in the book, knowing that Edwar would be mad when he found out. But they clearly left out all of the relationship between Alice and Bella. And that is setting it up weird for NM where Bella is almost as heartbroken to loose Alice as she is to loose Edward. But all of the hotel scene in Phoenix was too short. We didn't see any of the bonding that went on there, especially between Bella and Jasper.

I saw the movie again last night. And it just puzzles me...CH must have thing for trees..Edward climbs trees in the so-called meadow, and they are completely surrounded by trees there. And then when Bella is about to meet Alice and Jasper for the first time they come through a window from a tree branch...And then Edward takes Bella on his back and takes her tree climbing..Why?? There was never any mention about trees in Twilight, except that Bella was afraid that Edward would hit the trees while running. It was almost like CH thought: Yeah, cool, let's save the trees..Give them a large part in this movie...
I don't know, just doesn't make sense to me

A lot of her choices didn't make sense to me.

But I have to say that when I found out about her wanting that deleted scene with the biting in there, I about died! I just can't believe that she actually read the book at any point or that she honestly thought she was being true to the book.

Finally someone who sees the movie was soooooo wroooong.
I agree, I can't believe Stephenie let them make it with so many inconsistencies.
Everyone keeps saying they "HAD TO CONDENSE IT TO MAKE IT FIT" - only because Summit needed it to be less than 2hrs to get bums on seats in the theatres.
Okay some scenes from the book could be left out. I understand that but they left out the story and the scenes that carry it. It's meant to be a love story but I'm sorry can anyone please tell where the love story went?
The ADDED scenes should not have been there. If they used the scenes out of the book it would have been way better.
The Cullen house really really bothers me. I love that it's supposed to be an old restoration made absolutely beautiful.
Just about everything in the movie changed. They might as well have not based it on the book. They didn't follow the storyline, they didn't really keep the characters dressed the same, even the houses were not as described in the book. I was expecting the Cullen house to be this old white 3 story house instead it was a modern wooden house that looked like it was just built. And Edwards car, I expected it to be more flashy. It was meant to stand out but it blended in.

And the dialogue, why did they change it? I mean it was all over the place. Great lines at the end of the book were at the beginning of the movie and said by the wrong characters. Please writers, is it that hard to give the line to the right character.

Also did anyone notice at the prom Jacob seemed to know that Edward was a vampire? It was just the look but still...
