Re: What are you reading?
Currently reading:
1) How Rich Countries Got Rich and Why Poor Countries Stay Poor, by Erik Reinert. The title is pretty self-explanatory here; Reinert has written a very broad and impressive work that combines intellectual and economic history.
2) The Inside Ring, by Mike Lawson. Lawson's debut novel is the first in a series of political thrillers; his protagonist is a lawyer named Joe DeMarco who works as a special fixer for the Speaker of the House. In this one, in the wake of an attempted Presidential assassination, DeMarco is tasked with covertly investigating the potential role in the attempt by an agent of the very body assigned to protect the President, the Secret Service. Lawson's plotting and characterization in this first novel are nothing out of the ordinary; what I find distinctive is the way he refuses to whitewash the day-to-day, nearly universal corruption that exists in America's capital.

Re: What are you reading?
SO jealous, maddy! I'm waiting for my order of Linger to come. I thought it would be here already, but I guess I have a few more days to wait.
I had to put The Postmistress back on the to be read pile. I wasn't feeling it and the many storylines confused me. Instead I finished, Magic and Misdemeanors by Michael Buckley (the 5th book in the Sisters Grimm series) and I'm currently reading The Beekeeper's Apprentice by Laurie King, which is really good!
