I don't mind Dakota Fanning being cast as Jane. I can picture her playing the part. My only concern, to echo AliceFan, is if they rewrite the part to be bigger than it is to cash in on her "star power".....

Wow, Jane is seriously your favorite character? That's too bad that this ruined it for you -- I hope you can enjoy the movies anyway. I would have a really hard time not watching them, as I'm slightly addicted.

AliceFan and twilightsagaaddict: I agree, re-writing Jane to be in more of the movie would ruin it, I hadn't thought of that possibility. Hopefully they are true to the book and then they can't go wrong.

I completely agree with this.

I don't even know what it is I don't like about Dakota but I've been pretty passionate about avoiding her movies since....forever. Well, actually I do know what it is. It seems like she's ALWAYS cast to play every big budget child role. It's ALWAYS Dakota Fanning. They always say she's so talented for her age but there really haven't been that many other child actors that are allowed to get to the level she's at...because they always want HER.

The only movie I would ever watch with her in it is I Am Sam and I haven't seen it yet so that should say allot right there.

And Jane is probably my third favorite character only to Alice and Jasper.

SO to say I'm upset is a bit of an understatement.
It ruins it SOOO much for me.
I almost don't want to go see it now.
Seriously.

In my opinions she's more talented then Dakota.

Oh and btw, If her hair is not brunette I'll have another extreme problem. I know that's trivial because between hair dye and wigs they can make it work but I'm just saying. Jane is not blond...

I may be outnumbered (and get rocks thrown at me...) but I think Dakota Fanning will make a great Jane!

I think it could be a valid concern that because of the her being a bigger name that they may inflate the character, but Dakota doesn't seem like the kind of actor who would demand something like that, I think she would play a "lesser" character happily.

I think the reason she gets cast so much is because she is a great actor, she is easy to work with and she does her other duties (interviews, promotional stuff, fan interactions) very very well.

You know, no matter who's in it, I worked to hard and worried to long to keep Taylor's role, that I will see the movie multiple times. As I did Twilight, maybe 4-5. Though I hate her with all my heart.

^^^ really why do people hate Dakota? I don't know too much about her except I've seen her movies. She was good in Secret Life of Bees. But Jane doesn't really play that big of a role in New Moon, Eclipse ad BD.
She's mostly in just the last parts of the book (or so I hope, they don't add more of her and change the movies).

Anyway, I agree Jodelle looked the part more but since Jane isn't that huge of a character, I don't mind.
Changing Jacob was going to be HUGE, since he's a main character, but Jane.. whatever.

With re. to Dakota being cast...I have no opposition to is exactly, it's just that I never imagined Jane to be a very young vampire, just very slight. Also, haven't the volturi got a massive issue about child vampires? Dakota looks very childlike and sort of goes against all the Volturi rules....or will it be a case of one rule for them, one for everyone else?

Actually, I think it is in one of SM's PCs that we find out that she and Alec were just barely more than teenagers and were being burned as witches in their village because they had their powers even as humans. Aro and the rest had been monitoring them but couldn't stand to see them destroyed so they turned them both. But, even when reading the novels, I think it might have been the description of her voice that gave me the impression that they were in fact very young. And, as for the "immortal children" issue, it is just very young children. Think about the time the Volturi would have been alive. In those times, a 13 year old was considered an adult capable of parenting and responsibility. So, a 13 or 14 year old wouldn't be an issue at all.

But, I guess that's why I always pictured Jane as resembling Dakota Fanning. She was my visial reference. I wouldn't mind seeing Abilgail Breslin in the role. But, alas, Dakota it is. I am pretty ambivalent about it, really. She's not my most or least favorite. As long as they don't touch the role itself to try to cash in on her. That would snap my teeth together for sure.

Ah I see, that makes sense...I'm fairly new to the Twilight universe so I have much to learn

I suppose everyone interprets the books slightly differently so the films aren't always going to suit all the fans, thats something to consider.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how it's tackled and keeping my fingers crossed that the general important elements (ie. Bella's pain) aren't overlooked or diluted.

Oh my good gracious, I want to change the subject. My hatred for dakota is growing...didn't think that was at all possible. I'm not gunna say I'm going to stop watching the movies, but I'm going to dislike it lol. I don't think you guys completely understand what I'm saying but just...yeah. So, on a brighter note, they're going to start practicing or preparing for the movie very very soon.
