"And the secret ingredient of the day is...COCONUTS!!" Just think of all that can be done with nice big round coconuts. The husbands will love the new excitement at comments like this.

Knowing eachothers thoughts during Baking would be EVIL. Male chefs blurt out enough stupid stuff in the kitchen as it is, let alone what actually go caught in the sifter.
OMG this thread is the only thing keeping me going at work today! I'm trying to be professional and I've got visions of frosting cupcakes, coconuts and The Iron Chef dancing in my head.

Ok Oleander. I just had to explain to my co workers why I fell off my chair. Welcome to the gutter. A very bad thought about licking the bowl came to mind but nope not going there. :o

In answer to would I want people to see inside me. I've never been afraid to tell close people about my past excapades. Although it is kind of funny to see some of their faces when they do find out and can't just put the two pieces of the puzzle together I've come along way baby! Still there are some things I don't spill and I'm not sure if it's because I'm so much worried that people won't like me as much as they won't take me seriously. It's probably 50/50. I don't have a thick skin either and can sometimes take things too personally. People could also use your deep dark secrets against you too easily.

I feel your pain. I started a new series by Larissa Ione and the next one doesn't come out till March 09.

See I don't think you have to know the true inner minds thoughts but this is where good communication comes in. Good communication is especially required while working in the kitchen. The Chef will need to direct the Sous Chef so that they can make each and every dish unique and special. Lord knows you wouldn't want to be working on making the perfect Soufflé and have it fall because the communication was bad. :ugeek:

I like the direction the gutter has gone... :D

Nima I completely feel your pain....strangely I start a new series while waiting for a the next release of one I've read only to get hooked on it and need yet another series to distract me while I wait. It's a downward spiral...Hmmm looking at the genre, it's similar to our Romance Love Ladder...but I guess it's more like the slide. There's food for thought...it seems we are playing the Romance/Dhirty Chutes and Ladders...

Sorry, I MUST need more coffee!

I have loved all the inputs...I couldn't drink my coffee because I was laughing so hard (and didn't want to pull a Nima with my screen). :D The more I hang with my DGG's the less and less I can watch ANYTHING on the cooking network with a straight face! My hubby is starting to worry about me...

There are benefits and drawbacks to having someone in your head while baking. I'd be worried that my critiquing would offend and subsequently prematurely end the baking because you can't bake in a cold oven. And lets face it, there is nothing worse than underdone cupcakes...without icing. While it'd be great to give assistance to proper whipping techniques, exact baking timing and such, it could ultimately backfire. Plus, I am self-conscious enough to NOT want to know what my baking buddy REALLY thinks in his head. I'd hate to have him thinking about a different chef than me! Or worse, my head on a different chef's body with a standby assistant!

ETA: You are right Misfit - the difference between seeing in the mind and sharing. I'd rather share - although, it would be handy to (as someone said) turn the mind sharing on and off because sometimes you can get so focused in the baking that other parts shut-down. It's hard to share the next step in the recipe when your tongue-tied!

Feathers wrote: And I was totally watching Iron Chef when I read that post. Can you imagine the weirdness? Here I am thinking about Bobby Flay doing gutter baking instead of actually deboning the fish. Yeah, yeah. That went downhill so fast. And they aren't doing anything nearly that interesting, right now. Although they are using a shredder without the handguard, and the announcer keeps saying "Please, PLEASE don't ever do that at home, it's stupid even for professionals to do!" And I'm giggling.

Snort Deboning.... the iron Chef is DIRTY!!!!! And don't they know "no glove no love" I mean really they could get hurt.

I'd imagine that... well, ladies, there's just no faking it when your partner knows every thought. And, you would know his! (Or hers, Misfit.) I like the idea of being able to CHOOSE when he(she) could hear my thoughts. Then, when I wanted him to hear me, he could. And then if I decided if it was too weird for him to hear me thoughts whilst baking, I could just shut him out again. Woo!

Maybe the solution is to give them recipe cards..... then they know wisk here, kneed here, frost here.
If they follow the recipe you get perfect results without having to reveal that you are actually writing yoru grocery list out in your head while he is trying to make the perfect loaf of bread...... just a thought.

Another thought that just crossed my mind... imagine the baking with Nessie and Jacob (in many years of course) Since it is all touch with her sharing method he'll never be able to get out of her head while baking..... could heat things up to burning or throw some serious ice water on the rising bread.

But at least they'll be sure to work from the same recipe. They won't get the oven all heated up only to find that she thought they were making snickerdoodles and he thought they were making spiced walnuts.

If people were to look inside me would they like me more or less? Hmmm...I think it would be about the same. I'm very similar to Blue & Honey. I'm also similar to Jenni. I'm also similar to Aphie & Ren. More than anything I want people to like me. It's true. I have my shy moments (consequence of low self-esteem) and I will *hide* myself until I feel safe. I *fake* being out-going most of the time. It would appear to my fellow DGG's that I have no filter. I'm fairly pervish. I have an extemely filthy mind and I'm not usually afraid to use it as long as I'm in a safe environment. I smile a lot, and I appear happy and confident.

However, I'm usually in a funk and I feel like a fraud. If one could see in my head they would see a lot of negativity. My mind is constantly running, and it's not always good.

I have to run...but I will post again later.

Personally when in the kitchen, it's the surprise ingredients or new techniques that your co-chef brings to the table that are the most fun. If your co-chef could read your mind, in an effort to please you he would only ever bring your favorite treats to the table and well a girl can only eat so many chocolate cupcakes before she gets bored, no matter how much she likes them. Sometimes it's awesome to have a grapefruit curdfilled cupcake**....unexpected and fresh and new. It's so yummy because it's something you never thought of, something you never knew you wanted to try until there you are trying it.

**Found these accidently on day and have been DYING to try them. Sorry. Random sharing.

Ouisa Although I've never found a time when I was tired of Chocolate I do agree that surprises are fun..... a dash of Cayenne, Cinnamon or Nutmeg in with the chocolate keeps things hot :)

I checked out the recipe on the link you gave and must ask does anyone else find this dirty???
Tip: It is important that the butter is at room temperature and beat well. Otherwise you might get butter chunks which sort of melt into little pools and make the cupcakes come out funny-looking. Not a huge deal, but I thought I'd mention it.
I mean I find when I beat the butter it usually gets pretty hot and melty... itsn't that the goal a big puddle oh butter at the end

Oh My god, i'm so going to get fired if i keep reading this thread at work! I'm covering phones today and I just totally laughed in some client's ear! The tears are streaming down my face and my co-workers are really starting to become concerned.

Can't. Stop. Laughing. And. Thinking. Of. Baking.
