Oh my!!! I would have been scarred for life as well! Great parenting tactic, it taught you a very valuable lesson. Just have to add that to my list in case I get to have children.

Welcome back MTF!!! We've been wondering where you disappeared to!

Well, MTF, it's about time you graced us with your presence.

It appears that quite a few people saw that girl on campus today. I still can't believe it.

I grew up in the 80's when we covered ourselves. I still hate for my bra to show and my underwear goes underneath my clothes.

Today was day one of the family yard sale. Nearly all my clothes have sold! YAY! We're doing it again tomorrow. Oh...and I was in the sun for 2 hours and I'm sunburnt. Pathetic, I know. :D

ETA: Nima just posted on the True Things Thread that FS's team won tonight, so I came here to congratulate her and the team. Woo hoo! Now send me a hot cinnamon roll por favor!

MTF-- I don't know you, as I'm new to the Lex. My hubby went prematurely bald... at like 27! He decided to shave it all off one day, and I LOVE it!! He jokingly says it's not a bald head, it's a solar panel for a sex machine! There's always a positive spin on everything! LOL!

Hey all! Ren sliding in for a bit.

Love the anecdotes as usual! I get uncomfortable myself when my tummy shows, unless I'm in atheltic clothes and doing the sportsbra look. I can't quite explain that.

Congratulations to Nima and the team!

Happy Birthday to Bella!

And happy Twilight-Addict anniversary to me! (I joined the Lexicon a year ago today.) Yay!

MissJulie made this great avatar: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v12/t ... aycopy.jpg I *love* it. (And I'm totally using it for the day, and probably until I get lazy to take it down, and she has invited anyone else who wants to, to use it as well.)

In honor of Bella's birthday, I'm just curious. What sort of present would you get a present-hating, attention-avoiding, once-accident-prone-human-but-now-indestructable-baking-obsessed-vampire for her birthday?

<3 Ren

I was reading the thread, and thought "oh my! I have nothing to add!" - then walked away and thought of several things! Typical!

Nena is correct in that the Gutter is not as old as some of our own children ('though we care for it as such), but actually, this is the 11th version of the Gutter (it becomes a new thread after 100 posts). I only know that because of the Gutter archive. Speaking of the gutter archive, I have caught up a bit on the member requests. However, I still have several more to add - please remember that if you are requesting access to the gutter archive (a pbwiki creation), please mention your ID on the Lex - I don't want to add random people in error.

I have been following with interest the age and love/baking talk, and then it hit me - how could we forget that nightmare of Bella's at the beginning of New Moon (page 6) in which Bella has that terrible image of her as wrinkled as her grandmother while Edward remains exactly the same. I liked how someone said that our mental image of our beloved one remains fixed in some way, so that the physical image matters a lot less. After our rational talk about not worrying about wrinkles or paunches or grey hair and our interest in baking, how do we interpret Bella's preoccupation with keeping her physical image in tune with Edward's mental image, although it matters not to him? Would we have been happy or content if Bella was indeed allowed to age as a human and there appeared to be a "May-December" romance, despite the fact that Edward is both 17 and over 100?

Enough depth - I loved the advice of picking just one asset to highlight and downplaying the rest. Now I gotta go see which "asset" I should focus on!

Something useful, like new sheets... I'm sure theirs wear out at least once a week due to the prolonged friction happening within.

Wow- that's a good question. I think that Bella had the right thought when she told Edward (I think it was in Tw) that a man and woman have to be equal in a relationship. She never knew vamps existed before she came to Forks. She lived in a human world with human guys. She would not have been as preoccupied with age if she had been with a human, because they would have aged together. When she met Edward, her whole perspective changed. All of a sudden, there was this alternative lifestyle she knew nothing about. When we as humans say "I want to be with you forever," that is a quantifiable amount of time: "forever" being until we die. It's a whole other meaning in the world of Twilight: "forever" is literally "forever." Bella was sure that the only way she could be with Edward as an equal in every sense of the word was to become a vampire and cross over to his world; it wasn't possible for him to cross over to hers.

I don't think I would have been okay if Bella remained human. There were too many clues in the series that led me to believe her change was coming... Bella never felt like she fit in with normal people; Edward not being able to hear her thoughts (there was just something about that that was eluding me through the whole series), her mind being so strong (I knew that had something to do with a power, since the other Cullens' powers were also mental); Bella's aversion to blood (she would fit right in with the Cullens' vegetarian lifestyle); her immunity to Jane and Aro's powers, too (they said they had never seen anyone like her)... Bella was MEANT to be a vampire! There would have been too much danger surrounding her and the Cullens if she hadn't been turned; they'd always be fighting and protecting her, and she just couldn't bear to have that forever.

I don't think that she and Edward could have had their HEA with her remaining human. Even though he tells her in Ec that he "got over" the smell of her blood and it didn't bother him anymore... human blood is essentially his primal pull, and it would have caused problems. There would have always been that struggle in the back of his mind. In Bella's perspective, the only way that they could be together and compatible was to be one of them. If Edward had been, say, 20, then I think she would have been fine with waiting a couple of years. But since Edward was 17, I think she was right in wanting to change while they still looked physically compatible with each other, and being where she finally fit in.

Thanks for the avatar Feathers! It's cute.

A birthday present for the now-immortal Bella? Probably an expense account at a furniture store to replace all the headboards they will probably destroy, or one at Linens and Things. Maybe a first-edition copy of Wuthering Heights or one of her favourite Austen books.

Or a babysitter for a couple of days so she and Edward can do some uninterrupted celebratory cake baking for the occasion.

I would like to send her on a tour of the settings of all her favorite novels... to places she's never been. I think she'd like that!
