They make the outfit a bit fancier, aka bring some class, and they don't look like too much with the busy top. Maybe pair with some chunky boho bangles and a nice boho hairstyle to go with it? ARGH this advice just comes out of me, hope it's not bothering you... hehe sorry
Jenni- Hope it's OK if I give you some advice! But the second I saw those pants, I knew that they would be hard to work with, unless you know how to pair them. Since they have so much detail and show so much skin, I would recommend a simple top to go with it that doesn't show too much skin. Since the pants are so short, go with a top that's not too long so they don't swallow you up! Also, you'll want something fitted, so maybe a fitted blazer over your shirt? (Sorry I'm getting so specific! Again, this stuff just pours out of me!) As for shoes, cropped pants break your leg up which makes you look shorter, so I would recommend shoes with a heel to make you look taller again. To go with the rock-and-roll look that these pants seem to have, Some edgy stilettos or high-heeled boots (like the photo) would look great. Throw in some edgy jewelry and a black leather purse, and you've got yourself an outfit!
Well, Bri, you can still do your job as the fashion guru, just thought I would throw in my two cents worth... though that seems like way more than two cents... oh well.
Vanessa- I would go with the first top, since the jeans are so simple. Your shoes and accessories should probably be a bit fancier to dress up the outfit... it's a casual party, but not THAT casual... bar attire is like that
