Yes it is the basis for True Blood. The books are soooooo good!! I'm on the 4th book and I need to order the next few books so that I will have something to read. I think the 9th book comes out sometime this summer and I'm stoaked! You should definitely give the books a go if you like the TV show. I had them recommended to me by one of my friends and they are definitely worth the read.
