I've wondered that myself! I think it's just one of those things that you can't explain, ya know? I love this series to death, and find it to be an incredibly vast universe with so much to learn about, but some things you can't rationalizeshakespeareowns wrote:In Twilight the Cullens play baseball. When they are doing so, the ball is thrown at light-speed and is hit with enough force to create a sound like thunder. Wouldn't hitting the ball with such force cause the bat to break?

The sewer could be just any form of er...getting rid of waste that the city had. There have always been sewers since back in Roman times, but just different than there are today.shakespeareowns wrote:I have another one:

I see your point, but from the way Stephenie described it, the vampires were in the sewer to avoid the sun and I don't think the sewers your talking about were away from the sun.debussygirl wrote:The sewer could be just any form of er...getting rid of waste that the city had. Okay I have finally read all 70 pages of comments so I want to comments on some things, but first...
MS did not say all the cars were tinted only the Volvo was darkly tinted, but it did imply that Edward was safe to drive around in the volvo because people couldn't see him. So with that it would make sense for all the cars to have a tint, so they could travel during sunny days.
I thought it was interesting when the discussion was talking about Esme's suicide attempt and the irony of wanting to die and end your life only to be not only saved but brought into an immortality. How do you think her immediate reaction was to that (other than she was wowed by Carlisle)? I don't know something about being that depressed and then not only living, but unable to try again seems morbidly ironic.

"London's sewers were open ditches sloped slightly to drain human wastes toward the River Thames, and ultimately into the sea. Sewer ditches quickly filled with garbage and human wastes, which overflowed onto streets, into houses and marketplaces throughout London. By the late 1500s, King Henry VIII wrote an edict which made each householder responsible for clearing the sewer passing by their dwelling. The King also created a special Commission of Sewers to enforce these rules. However, no money was provided to pay its members. Therefore, the Commission was not installed until 1622, when it was decided that fines for non-compliance could be used to fund its activities." from http://www.swopnet.com/engr/londonsewer ... text1.html
It sounds like in 1622 some people started creating a space for them... yuck...

I kinda felt like Esme would have seen it as her old self dying away...she got her wish. She was no longer in danger of her abusive husband finding her, no longer forced to live a life of unhappiness and depression. I think Carlisle was more than just a vampire who saved her, he was her ultimate soul mate and so she probably just assumed a whole new out look on life once she awoke from her transformation. Despite trying to kill herself, I think she'd incredibly strong willed (she shows this...edward alludes to it when he says Esme wouldn't care what Edward had to do to be able to stay with the family in Forks...) I think Esme was able to just shut off her human life, move forward from that whole experience. It was sort of like a metaphorical death for her instead of a real one...
I hope that made sense. I'm super tired but wanted to try and explain how I saw it...LOL
Thank you Naureen!!

Re: Twilight Saga Q&A #3
Something jut occurred to me...there was a more recent mention of Edward possibly being disturbed by the teacher (don't remember which one! lol) liking Bella....
**MIDNIGHT SUN SPOILER**
When Edward walks into the office to ask Mrs. Cope to be placed in another class, she ends up all flustered over him. She even thinks "Silly. He's almost young enough to be my son...Too young to think of that way..."
I think another reason Edward wouldn't be upset by the teacher liking Bella was because he knew older women liked him too. It's just something he knows happens, even with such a big age difference.
I was just reading that so I figured I'd post it....even though it's gotten off-topic at the moment
EDIT Of course, his being a vampire would give any woman another reason to be attracted to him. But it still happens, and of all people, he'd know

Re: Twilight Saga Q&A #3
Imprinting has been on my mind and that was one of the reasons I really wanted to read this forum before I said something redundant.
Imprinting seemed like a way to find the person who would support you 100% I didn't reallyl think much of the procreating. I also don't think it is possible for shapeshifters to imprint on other shapeshifters. This was part of my explaination why Sam didn't imprint on Leah. By the time Sam had finished his transformation, Leah was already beginning the signs.
(This might be a little off, but an old teaching might also come into play; humans choose who they believe is best for them, but in someways even though they could have a successful relationship it isn't the one that was created for them.)
Remember that shapeshifters hold a temperature of 108.9 (i think) and at this temperature I don't think it is healthy for a woman to carry a child. Therefore I don't think that Leah will ever be able to procreate.
Another thought is in BD Jacob says something along the lines that you have to be ready to imprint. That is why he went to the part to almost will himself into imprinting. Taking the step that he was ready. Leah seems to be still very hung up on Sam and if she is capable of imprinting, I think it will be when she is ready. This would also lead into the discussion if they were married and imprinted on someone else, that doesn't make sense that they would be wanting or ready to imprint.

I can't stop from thinking about the RV trip I thinks its hilarious, but because many of you referred to the personal correspondence (that I didn't know about so THANK YOU) I read the casino scene. I'm glad they took it out of Twilight. I thinkit would be an interesting scene after BD. Maybe instead of an RV they should have a private Jet (a little more stable before Rosalie ends up looking like Robin Williams kids in rv ) They might not have to worry about fighting on lenghtly trips .
