My thing is, though, Edward doesn't really know Bella any more than she knows him. The only things he really knows about her are the things she's said and he's tried to infer from her conversations with others. You don't really have to get to know someone to feel love for them. Yes, sometimes things that you find out later can interrupt those feelings, but people can go for years being in love before they find something out about that person and it destroys the illusion. I think it's reasonable to say that if Bella can love him in spite of being a vampire then she can love him for anything else.
Precisely because death awaits us in the end, we must live fully.

Stars did fly toward each other, irresistibly, as if they were falling in love. And millions of years later, lovers on Earth drew together and fell in love, watching the stars fall.

If you look on the thread True Love - Truth or Myth? someone pointed out that true love means something different to each person. To me, true love is when you know someone - not the illusion that you have of them - when you really know them. Otherwise, you are idealizing them to what you want or need, and that isn't love, it's infatuation (fascination).

The problem is identifying when you truly know someone. I feel like you can have a connection to someone that is raw and outside of situations. Bella knew enough of Edward and felt such an electricity around him, such a pull toward him, that I think--for her--identifying the smaller things about character would come but not be necessary for love. If that makes any sense...

I see what you mean. . .I think I can agree. Like I said before, their relationship defies classification, so to think that she felt something there that wouldn't be there in any normal relationship is okay IMO. I don't think downright fascination is part of any normal relationship, but it was definitely there in this one. . .I think that is the pull, along with physical attraction.

You mean you have never been fascinated with a man before? Wow, maybe I am hard to please  and why I haven't found my prince. But to me fascination, intrigued and that is all the mystery that get me to notice and keeps my interest. I must be strange

No, no let me rephrase that. Fascination is a part of it (I am guessing) but not to the extent that Edward and Bella have it. You telling me that you have snuck into someone's bedroom every night?

and I can't say whether or not you are strange Diane, because
1. I have no idea how I would act in such a situation
2. I don't really know you :D

Well I at least fun and a little different in my point of view on things. I had to be both mom and dad to my son and so I think like a woman and a man. Is that crazy???? YES!!!

So let me see if I can sum up the last two pages.

We have fascination that leads to love
We have courtly love which is that strange love you have for someone but it is not both ways yet.
We have love which is the first passion of both parties expressing their feelings; I like to call it the "New Love Aura." Some call it puppy love...
We have True love, which is not definable in finite terms but generally the kind of love that endures the ages regardless of the situation that face it...They'll help you hide the bodies kind of thing...

Did I get it; Oh darn there's more...

Opulent has never been fascinated by a man...
Diane is both sexes...

I go to sleep for a while and all love breaks out…nest delusions of grandeur will spring forth…

That sounds wrong.

What 'true' love for one couple may not be the same for another. The way I see it, what worked for Bella and Edward wouldn't work for Bella and Jake. Just like what happens in the book on a conscience or subconscience level wouldn't happen in real life to that extreme.
