Wow, I didn't even realise that True Blood came from a book series! I'll have to look into them.
I'm absolutely loving the True Blood series, I'm on Season 2 over here cos my friend can get them somehow and they are incredible! I love the effects and just found out ---you don't want to read this if you are on season 1--- that Eric can fly!!

I just think it gets better and better, they kind of lay of the mild porn of the first series and it all relaxes, I think HBO just tried to get their audience as big (read as more guys) as possible watching from the beginning!!!! I'm totally hooked on it until New Moon is released it's filling my Vampire shaped hole!!!

Have not been on here in a bit, But I had to check in to see how people were doing. I once again have to totally agree with Mandy about someone liking the show more than the books if they have truly read all of them. Not just the first one.
Vulgar they are not. The books are light years better, especially now that they have totally trashed any similarities the show may have once had to the books.
Anna Paquin is an Awful Sookie, I personally cant stomach her. And they have destroyed Eric.
And the whole Maryann thing, well the show Jumped the shark for me last Sunday night, Cutting off fingers, What was that guy doing in the sink..? And the giant Egg in a nest?? Please!
And the one story line I was enjoying is now ruined as well, not in the book, but was fun on the show was Jessica and Hoyt.
I was so pissed at Hoyt for the way her treated her, Yeah she bit his black eyed wacked out mother, but holy hell, She deserved it, and apparently liked it. LMAO!
Anyway, sorely dissapointed in the whole mess. But natch, I will watch the final trainwreck, er episode out of sheer morbid curiosity. I have to go and read the books again to try and forget all the nasty crap in the show.
Sorry for the vent!
Wow, excuse me for liking the show, then. I like how they add in more story lines than what's going on in the books. The books are such a light read, there's hardly anything going on at all. If the show stuck strictly to what happened in the books there would be maybe like, 6 episodes in each season. I thought it was creative to add on more story lines and characters. I like how they've developed Mary-ann's story line, I think it really brings out her insanity. I like how they kept Lafayette alive, I think his character is interesting. I like Hoyt and Jessica having a relationship, and I hope that he forgives her for what she did, but honestly, if you were dating someone and they completley cussed your mom out infront of you, no matter how much of a B your mom is being, you're still gonna get mad at them. So for Jessica to loose control over her actions like that, of course Hoyt is justified in being mad at Jessica. I just hope they can resolve it. But True Blood is a drama, so you can't have a show without drama. :)

Actually, I think he should be mad at Bill for not being more concerned about his "ward" (as Sookie called her) Jessica is a new vampire and really should not be left to her own devices as she has been.

Here are my thoughts from last week's episode:

"Teacup Humans" Bawahahaha! This episode was so/so. All the horror house scenes with Sookie were pretty lame. I bet the non-readers are more than a little confused about Hadley, and the Queen for that matter. Did they ever call SA by her name? I don't think Eric would be worried by Bill's threats. Even this Eric would have a plan that the Queen would be cool with. Marilyn Manson's girlfriend (or the chick from Across the Universe whatever you prefer) made a good Sophie Anne, but they missed out on the chance to bring in an awesome charater by leaving out Andre.

Oh and are Arliene's kids the only kids in town? Or is there a band of Lord of the Flies kids running wild in the woods?

THE EGG OMG!!!! How freaking random was that!!!???? That was a WTH moment if I ever saw one.

Also, I think Hadley did not seem right for the books or the show. That little southern bell is a v-addict, dark side, fangbanger, wild child??? hummmm...

I personally have never liked the show more than I like the books but I think last season had more high points than this season. Currently I am rereading DUD and thinking of how even though I never LOVED Bill in the books I like him so much more than I do in the show. Every time he opens his mouth on the show I find my self rolling my eyes. Similarly the small amount of Eric's sense of humor and flair has seemed almost too little to late in the show. On the other hand I do enjoy Lafayette (when he is not having twisted visions of Eric and cowering) and I enjoyed the rough and tough as nails yet sharp as a tack Tara we had last season. I am still enjoying the show (some episodes more than others) so I am still watching. However, I truly think the books are better written and more consistent in the world that they create.

^^ Kristin!!! Thank goodness, another voice of reason around here, besides Kim and I. :D

I completely agree with everything in your post. There are soooo many WTF moments this season, it's ridiculous. At least the extraneous stuff they showed last season that wasn't in the books (Jason getting hassled by the cops for all the murders, Lafayette being a drug/V dealer, Tara and her mom) were all things that seemed like they COULD have happened, so I wasn't too upset when they put it in the show. In those cases, I felt like the extra storylines really added to the show as a whole. And they did it without straying too far from the book.

This season, it just seems like they picked and chose whatever the hell they wanted from Living Dead in Dallas, and just blatantly threw out the rest and made up random crap. I mean, in the book Eric knew EXACTLY what a maenad was and how dangerous they were. The maenad even attacked Sookie as a message for Eric. So it just bothers me that they made Eric and Bill totally clueless on the show, going to Sophie-Anne for help like a bunch of little b!tches or something. You would think since Eric is 1000+ years, he would be familiar with pretty much every supernatural being, the way he seems to be in the books.

And then the whole dynamic with Maryann and Sam... I hate how completely flipped around they made it. In the books, they didn't have any history together. He didn't fear her, and she didn't want to kill him. They had a sexual relationship while she was in Bon Temps. And on the show she's out for his blood, plus all that ridiculous sacrifice stuff for the "god who comes" which just seems out of left field. Sex parties? Sure, that actually happened. But she wasn't tearing out the hearts of town residents, and feeding it in a souffle.

I have a feeling Hadley won't be a thing like how she was described in the books. Big surprise there. And I don't even want to try and guess what the hell the egg is. I TOTALLY roll my eyes every time Bill speaks. I like Stephen Moyer as a person when I see him in interviews, but he's AWFUL as Bill! He can't act, he just comes off as very cheesy and overly dramatic.

I just don't see how anyone who is a fan of the books could possibly like all the changes they've made on the show. Could you imagine if they changed that much of Twilight for the movie??? :| All hell would break loose.

WOW Amazing, not a single comment since the Season Finale Sunday. Perhaps we are all too disgusted, I know I am.
Pathetic. After all the crap and buildup of Maryann, it was that easy to kill her. The story seemed to be thrown together.
And I can hardly comment on Bill asking Sookie to marry him, And Who do we think grabbed Bill from behinf with the silver around his neck? Could it be Eric? So not happy with the whole mess.
And Yatzee?? Sophie Ann is into YAtzee? Umm ok~ The queen is nothing like that in the books. And she sure as hell does not want Eric to "Take Care of" Bill.
Wont be anxious to see next season. Totally looking forward to New Moon, At least from the latest trailer, that looks really good. What a dissapointment this season has been.

I was surprised too at how quick it was to kill Maryann since they made a bag deal of her for this whole season. I looked at the timer and realised there was another 30 minutes left! The whole proposal was just too normal i think. The episodes in the middle of this season were the best.
And i'm glad eggs is dead, if you want to turn yourself in do it peacefully, not waving around the murder weapon at a police officer!! That was a nice shot from Jason though! That Jesus soldier camp thing taught him well! haha

I am glad you said what you said about Eggs..aside from Bill and Sookie, he for me was the most annoying character this season. I could even tolerate Maryann..but everytime I saw Eggs, I just wanted to punch him.

And I got a little choked up when Andy told Jason to give him the gun and leave..I was all like, "Awww Andy..You do have a heart!"

I can't even begin to comment on the retardedness of the finale. I think Kim said it the best when she pointed out that no one had posted anything about it until Tuesday. That speaks volumes.

I agree with what you guys said. All it took was a little bit of trickery to kill Maryann? WOW she was soooo powerful. The proposal? Lame. As far as who grabbed Bill, I'm wondering if they're going to bring Lorena back for the storyline in Club Dead, or if they'll have it be someone else entirely who's after him.
The queen is nothing at all like she is described in the books, which irks me to no end. Sophie Anne is supposed to be very cool and serious and blunt. She doesn't make stupid jokes or puns. Evan Rachel Wood just makes her a totally cheesy vampire cliche, IMO. And why exactly would she want Eric to sell vampire blood??? I still don't understand that at all.

I was pretty surprised they killed Eggs. And even more surprised that Andy is covering for Jason. We can already see that season 3 will likely share zero resemblance to the third book. Big surprise there.

I'm still over here waving my flag...i like the show, but I just look at it as a play on the books, not a visual interpretation...i could see where people are pissed off, if catherine hadwick had completely twisted twilight into a virtually unrecognizable version of itself, I'd be pretty pissed off, too....oh wait, she did, and I am...

Honestly, compared to True Blood and how it completely butchered the first two Sookie books, Twilight looks like an exact represenation of the book. I think it was way way WAAAAAY truer to the book than True Blood has ever been.

Even if I could get beyond how Alan Ball has destroyed one of my favorite books series, a lot of the atrocious melodramatic acting would still get to me. As would the ridiculously anticlimactic way they killed off Maryann, especially after all that hype all season.

For me, watching this show is seriously like eating a whole bag of Doritos by myself. I can't stop even though I know it's bad, and I hate myself after it's all done.
