I think the sunglasses were Robert Pattinson's own pair. Maybe he just wanted to use them. /shrug

Of course in-character it could have been simply something to make him more "human."

He is definitely not flipping Emmett off. That would never have made it into a movie with its rating. Not to mention, it's quite out of character- we all know Edward's a gentleman.

I believe he snaps his fingers and then points at Emmett, sort of like "It's your fault!" :)

Okay, so I have now seen the movie a grand total of way too many times to count, but there are two questions that I still cannot answer. I am hoping that you all can help.

1) In all but one scene, Rosealie is wearing gloves. Why? If it were scenes where she might accidentally touch a human or have to interact with one (other than Bella) I might understand. But, the one that sticks out most is when Edward takes Bella to the house. I kind of thought it was like what Peter Facinelli did with Carlisle, always having him wear high necked shirts and scarves. But I can't find anything on it and it is driving me crazy not to know. Thoughts?

2) There are three moments in the film where I think we actually experience Edward and Alice's gifts. I can not tell if it is just my imagination, or it is truly supposed to be that way. They are as follows:
A) When Edward takes Bella to the house and Rose, Em, Carlisle and Esme are cooking. You hear what most people I talk to think is Rosealie (because she's off camera) say, "whew, get a whiff of that." They all look around at each other. Than again Rosealie off camera says, "Here comes the human!" all excited as Esme kind of tip toes to the stairs.
B) During the baseball game, right before the nomads appear. Rose hits the ball, the frame closes in on Alice and then flashes to James' etc entrance. Then it flashes to Edward, who looks out to the woods and then gets that look like he's listening really hard. Then, James and company make their entrance, exactly as it is seen previously.
C) In the ballet studio, when Carlisle, Edward and Alice are working on Bella. Carlisle explains that Bella's losing too much blood and tells Edward he has to make the choice whether to let the change happen. The camera focuses on Carlisle staring at Edward, awaiting his decision, but you hear what most presume is Edward saying, "It doesn't have to be that way." Edward then asks Carlisle, "What's my other option?"

Here's what I think is going on and why. I welcome feedback.
1) I think that it is actually Esme who is thinking those things as Edward and Bella come into the kitchen and we are hearing what Edward hears in his head as he is trying to assess his family's reactions. Why do I think this? Well, Rose hates Bella. She's 16 kinds of pissed that she's there, not all excited about the presence of a human, particularly that human, in her house. It just makes more sense that that is Esme. Plus, the voice is Elizabeth Reaser's, not Nikki Reed's.
2) That sequence is not an editing ooops, as most think, but rather what Alice sees when James and co decide to visit the field, then Edward's reaction as he sees in in Alice's thoughts, then tries to detect James and co with his mind.
3) As Carlisle is asking Edward if they should let Bella die or be changed, his own internal dialogue is that there has to be another way. It is Carlisle's voice we hear saying, "It doesn't have to be that way." But, he doesn't want to go further with the idea because he knows how impossible that would be for Edward. But, once Edward asks, he has to tell him what his thought is. Again, this is primarily because, it makes a heck of alot more sense than if Edward says both those lines. And, it's Peter Facinelli's voice that delivers the line.

Maybe I'm crazy. What do you think?

Well Jazz Girl, I can tell you put a lot of thought in your questions. :)

To answer your first question- and this is what I think, so I could be wrong- but to me the answer is the most obvious. Rosalie (Reed) shatters the bowl. I believe she's wearing the gloves to protect her hands from being cut.

As for the second...

a. I do agree that the "logical" choice for the speaker is Rosalie, since everyone else is on-camera and no one there is actually talking. However, for the same reason you pointed out, it's really not in-character for Rosalie to say those lines. My only question regarding your theory is- why would we be hearing their thoughts, even through Edward? Twilight is Bella's story, and she's the only narrator... Why they would slip in something only Edward could "hear" doesn't quite make sense in that regard. (And if it really were Esme's thoughts, Edward would have heard so much more than just hers. I'm sure Rosalie would be thinking daggers at Bella.) Of course, if you're right about the voice, then you could be hitting the nail on the head.

b. I believe you're spot-on in this one. :)

c. Again, my question as in "a": Why would we hear anyone's thoughts, given we are experiencing things from Bella's point of view? (And again, if you are right about the voice...) If Edward had said both lines, the first could easily be interpreted as him responding to whatever someone was thinking. (Now that I think about it, wasn't the "It doesn't have to be that way" line sort of in response to Alice's "I've seen it"?) But, great thoughts, regardless.

I'm going to have to watch those scenes again...

1) I can think of two explanations why Rosalie would be wearing gloves. The first one is we know she is the most mechanically minded of the Cullens and always loves playing with cars but she's also extremely vain so she would hate to get her fingernails or hands dirty or covered in grease.

The other, and less practical reason would be that from her time era women used to wear gloves a lot more, but I don't really buy into that theory of mine.

2)I think Rosalie is definitely saying these lines and she doesn't care who hears them. I don't think she's excited that a human is coming so it is being said in a derogatory manner.

Correct me if I'm wrong - and I probably am- but do Rosalie's gloves even have fingers? They looked like the fingerless type that people wear for absolutely no reason other than the fact that they look cute.

I'm pretty sure they had fingers, yes.

Yes, in both cases, they have fingers. In the kitchen scene, as well as the scene in the hallway in the hospital before Bella confronts Edward, she is wearing black gloves with a lighter color pattern on them. It makes sense, in the kitchen scene, for Nikki Reed to have on gloves to protect her hands, but not Rosealie. Although, maybe it's a combination of your answers, Elizabella. All the scenes that caught my eye (kitchen, baseball etc) would involve things where her hands might get dirty. So, it could easily have been Nikki's wardrobe thing that lent a little something extra to Rosealie. The vanity definitely fits.

As for the "Alice & Edward Experiences", I agree Ringswraith. They totally don't fit if you are telling Bell's side of the story. That's, I think, why they stuck out to me. Because they were so out of place. And, as for the voices, I am absolutely positive that it is Peter's voice, not Rob's that says, "It doesn't have to be that way." I am pretty sure it's Elizabeth's voice rather than Nikki's in the kitchen, but their voices are a lot more similar than Rob's and Peter's.

I just got the movie companion the other day and read it ALL. There is a big no-no in the book I noticed, and the only reason I am posting this here is because it is a book ABOUT the movie. =)

Page 88 for those of you who own the book, is a photo of Edward and Bella entering school together, aka: the sunglasses scene. The caption reads "Edward greets Bella at school on a rare sunny day in Forks, WA." If Edward were out on a sunny day, he'd be sparkling, but what bothers me about this picture is it actually is sunny. In the movie, Edward was out in the sun, in front of all of the students, not glittering. Did anyone else pick up on this?

Since everyone answered most of the questions already, I guess ill just pitch in my two cents.

I think it was nice to incorporate the Edward having gloves on when he goes to shake Charlie's hand. It shows that he's just trying to prevent another fingers-touch-cold-stone-hand moment. I also thought they were able to focus on Edward's power very well. Like the scene outside the police station where Carlisle is explaining the story to Bella but would look over to Edward.
